About Vedder Mountain Regional Park

Vedder Mountain Regional Park is located in the Fraser Valley near Chilliwack, British Columbia. The park covers a significant stretch of the Vedder Mountain ridge, featuring mixed coniferous forests composed mainly of Douglas fir, western red cedar, and western hemlock. The terrain is characterized by gently sloping hills, rocky outcrops, and creek valleys that provide vibrant habitats for deer, black bears, and a variety of bird species such as raptors and woodpeckers. Historically, the area was used by Indigenous peoples for hunting and gathering and later saw some limited logging activity. Today, the park is highly valued for day-use recreation including hiking, mountain biking on a network of single-track trails, birdwatching, and scenic photography.

The trails vary in difficulty, offering options for casual walkers as well as experienced mountain bikers, with viewpoints overlooking the Fraser River Valley and into the Coastal Mountains. Unique geological features and natural springs can be spotted throughout the park, and wildflowers bloom seasonally along the trails. Vedder Mountain Regional Park is a favorite getaway for locals and visitors seeking diverse forest landscapes, moderate elevation climbs, and well-maintained trails close to urban centers. The park is also important for regional conservation efforts, protecting native ecosystems and providing wildlife corridors.
